World Environment Day 2021

June 5th 2021 is World Environment Day. This is a day to reflect upon the incredible gifts that our planet provides us with and to consider what we can do to honour our home. It is so easy to rush about life, getting stuck inside your head thinking about the stresses of everyday life. In doing so, we often forget to take stock of the beauty that surrounds us. We don’t always notice how wonderful the birds sound, how vibrant the green trees look against a blue sky, how lovely the scent of freshly cut grass is. Today, I have made the most of the beautiful weather and have had lots of time to sit in nature and reflect on the wonders of the world around me. It is so emotionally and mentally restoring to be still and observe, listen, feel. Getting outside is one of the easiest, ways of taking positive action for your wellbeing and is available to all of us.

When I decided to take my woodturning seriously and start up this business, it was hugely important to me that I did so in a responsible, ethical way. Sourcing wood irresponsibly comes at a great cost to our planet and every creature in it. I knew that I could not be proud of a business that harmed the planet. Wrought To You is aware of our dependence on the natural world, the beautiful wood that I create my products from would not exist without Earth’s gift of trees and I take so much inspiration from the natural world in my designs. This is why all the wood used is either reclaimed or sourced from ethical suppliers; it is also why for every product sold, a tree is planted. Reforesting the planet is one way we can make a difference and it certainly helps my own personal wellbeing to know that we are making a positive contribution to the environment.

In honour of World Environment Day, and with the hope that it will lead to more trees being planted, from midnight on 5th June for one whole week, every product is available at a 10% discount using the code TREES.

“This is our moment.
We cannot turn back time. But we can grow trees, green our cities, rewild our gardens, change our diets and clean up rivers and coasts. We are the generation that can make peace with nature.
Let’s get active, not anxious. Let’s be bold, not timid.” World Environment
